I actually made it to my interview today. And I think I might have impressed the ol’ bloke (notice that I had lunch with a Brit). Before the interview, Guy showed a fellow student, Erena, and me around the city. He also showed us his apartment and gave us some tea (of course). After leaving, I headed back to my apartment to get ready and then back towards the metro for the interview. There, I ran into problems with my metro pass- but luckily this old, Spanish man helped me. I am really happy to have found such nice people in this large world.
I have noticed that there are a lot of Mexican/Guatemalan faces around Spain. For example, there is a mariachi playing outside my window (I’m going to start calling it my artsy window, for there is always an artist outside of it). While walking down the busiest, businessy streets I noticed that the blonde/European kids that were just being let of school were walking under the care of these Mexican babysitters. I have yet to understand Mexico-Spain’s current relationship. That’s something I’d like to do.
Additionally, I have these goals:
1. Take flamenco lessons
2. Visit the Roman statues/understand Roman Spain – I am so clueless about this!
3. See the works of:
- Picasso
- Dalí
- Goya
- Velázquez
- And then you have the not so Spanish: Renoir, Degas, Cezanne, Kandinsky works that are here in Madrid
4. Rowboat in the park
5. Go to at least 3 different clubs
6. Watch a futbol game at the stadium
7. Watch a bullfight
…and I’ll add more!
