cynical = survival

death, disease, conflict, genocide, domestic violence, rape, poverty, la la la...we here studying international development read about it all and discuss it daily. we are optimistic assholes. we have to be. it takes laughing at the worst conditions to be able to see that we can make something bad...less bad.

i think this is why i enjoyed guatemala so much because i was with people who think similarly to the way i do (i went with 2 development + 1 international relations friends). so while being stuffed in the back of a "chicken" truck. we laughed while smooshed together at the idea that we were being trafficked.

so it goes.
