there have been a few memo-to-self's floating around in my brain, to name some:

1. people aren't malicious. usually. it's really easy to think that a friend does something to be mean, but that's typically not the case. i don't know why we are tuned to think that people are out to get us, but they're not - they might just be bad at: remembering to go through with planned hangouts or taking out the trash or keeping it cool during a breakup or many other things.

2. "it's nice to be important, but it's important to be nice." and while it may be so much easier to be self-absorbed and apathetic, it does make every situation better to just be nice.

3. smile. a good friend once told me during a period when i was extremely bummed to simply smile. the body perceives physical movements and fastens them to emotional behavior. so while there are days when i would like to frown and tackle assholes, i instead smile at them. maybe i come off looking like a confused person smiling for no reason, but then...well...well then i'm not getting frowny wrinkes, but happy wrinkles.

are there any memo-to-self's that you have been thinking about?
