Inspired by Spain, hatin the rain.

May 14, 2008.

I just made some scrambled eggs with tomatoes and cheese on top. And now I’m sitting here, drinking my Twinings Breakfast Tea, as I type to you.  The weather still has been rainy/cold/grey.  The rain in Spain falls mostly on my head…It’s actually a good thing because Spain has been experiencing a serious drought http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1739621,00.html

Yesterday, I went on a little excursion with the language school to the infamous Prado Museo.  Angel, the school’s manager, was our tour guide to the works/life of two of Spain’s most interesting artists, Francisco Goya and Diego Velázquez.  While Velázquez had a stable life style painting continuously throughout his life for King Phillip IV, Goya experienced the many up and downs that also faced Spain.  Goya is known for his classic style, in which the objects in his paintings cleverly create a pleasing-to-the-eye triangle.  He is popular from his pretty, German paintings and royal court paintings (which were also hidden with social criticism).

Additionally, he is known for his dark, macabre paintings that were found in his house- showing his real, personal beliefs of Spain and human life and the royal court. You might recognize this little guy:

The day before yesterday, I went on a different school excursion to La Casa de Villa.  However the tour guide spoken Spanish very quickly, so I didn’t catch a lot. I do know that it was a widely used building for previous Spanish politicians. It is still decorated with Madrid and Spanish emblems.

Now, I’m off to my first bullfight! I took some meds to keep my cold down. This will be interesting! To read a little about Hemmingway’s interest in bullfights, check this out: http://www.pbs.org/hemingwayadventure/spain.html

Ciao, chicos y chicas!
