Internship Ingles

May 20, 2008

I have some missions to complete for the internship. 1. I have to check out las “tapas” in the area (appetizer bars) and judge them as a tourist, while taking photos of the places. My boss assigned the task to me. However, I’m cheap and I’ve already checked out many tapas. We’ll see how that goes.  2. I have to brainstorm and think of “historias” or articles to write about (something that requires me to study it more than once). The other workers/interns gave suggestions such as “visiting Madrid’s haunted places” and “scoping out the tourism scene”. I suggested looking into why there are Mexican immigrants here/Africans selling contraband. I’m sure no one would really want to read about those topics though because the answer is obvious.

Tomorrow I am going out with my boss so he can check out my photo skills. Honestly, I’m not worried about technicalities, but more so about my subjects. I’m an imaginative person (weirdo) and I don’t like to take photos of boring ol’ things. I think the biggest problem that I will have is demonstrating to my boss that yes, I take peculiar photos and that also people (sometimes) like them.

3. I am supposed to find American magazines/online newspapers that would want to buy photos of Madrid. Additionally, I have been told to translate their advertisements into English. Oh me, oh my. Be happy that you know English because it is the language of commercialism in every country of the world. (I’m not being used, I’m not being used.)
